Narrative Writing-Fractured Fairy tale

                                     My Reflection

I have been learning to write a fractured fairy tale using what I have learned about narritive structures and features. My story was based on The 3 Little Pigs!!! My next step is to use the past tense more consistantly

Understanding the purpose of characters in the text

 My Reflection

I have been learning to relate to the characters to the text to understand their purpose. 

I used a Venn diagram to compare Ivan and Stella in the story The One and Only Ivan. 

This made me realise  the differences between the characters and but also what made them similar.
My next step is to be able to use this information to make inferences about the purpose of the characters.

3D shapes

I found easy because shapes are every where so I looked around and taada I did this activity in a heartbeat.

My next step is to do harder shapes such as rhombuses. 

WALT use place value to solve larger multiplication problems.

I have been learning to multiply by tens. I found this easy since 10 time tables are pretty easy. My next                                                     step is to learn my basic facts in a heart beat.

       W.A.LT write a character description  using adjectives. I found this picture easy to describe since the look on her face describes most things about her.  I used my 5 senses to write 5 different sentences about my my character. My next step is to use more interesting adjectives.

           

Identifying common themes in fairy and fractured tales

        My Reflection

I have been learning to identify common themes in fairy and fractured tales. We read two narratives called Little Red Riding Hood and Into the forest. A common theme I made from these stories was that the main characters both had red clothes. I found this easy because I have read both books. My next step is to compare more fairy and fractured tales so I become better.

Singular to plural

I have been learning to make singular nouns to plurals.I found this easy since I use plurals now and then and I remember them.

Maori God Art

This is my Maori God Art. We read a myth called In the beginning. I drew Tu and used some adjectives to describe him. I enjoyed this activity.

Decimals,Fractions and Percantages

I was learning to compare decimals,fractions and percentages. I had to match up the same decimals to fractions and percentages. I thought it was tricky because there were so many different choices to chose from. My next step is to grow my knowledge with decimals,fractions and percentages

I have been learning to make a justified prediction about a text.  I found this tricky to make a prediction since the cover doesn't give away much.  My next step is to read the story to see if I'm right.

I have been learning to use equal additions to subtract 3 digit numbers.  I found this tricky considering I got a bit muddled up with adding and subtracting.  My next step is to use it with decimals

I have been learning to identify and describe what the author wanted me to feel,  think or see.  This text was about a debate for keeping zoos.  It made me think if I was against or for zoos.  I learnt that all debates are different.  My next step is to  identify what I think the author’s purpose might be

I have been learning to find information about my speech topic.  I used Instagrok and other websites
to research  my speech topic which is Save The Animals. I found this interesting because I found a lot about animal abuse than I thought there was. My next step is to plan my speech.

Features of Persuasive Writing

We have been learning to identify the features of persuasive writing.  I found this tricky since I didn't know what a Rhetorical question was.  Something I learnt was what a Rhetorical question.  My next step is to write a persuasive speech.    

Super Bike Skills

Telling The Time In 5 Minute blocks

I have been learning to tell the time in five minute blocks. I found this easy because I know my 5 time                              tables. My next step is to telling the time in roman numerals 

Ordering an eplanation

We have been learning about the structure and order of writing an explanation.  We had to put the pieces of writing in the correct order I found this easy because I know how to write an explanation so I know the order.                  My next step is to write my own explanation.
 

Responding to a text

I am learning to respond to text using my prior knowledge and experience.   I found this easy because  I used my impicet and explicit knowledge to help me.  My next step is to connect ideas from other texts I have read.
                                                           

Comparing and Contrasting Celebrations

We have been learning to compare and contrast different celebrations.  My group researched information about Easter. Something I found interesting was Easter is celebrated in different parts of the world.  Next we worked with another group and used a venn diagram to compare our celebrations. Things that were same were  special food and celebrated with friends and family.  My next step is to have more descriptive information.

Solving Multiplication Problems With 2 Digit Numbers

My Reflection

I have been learning to solve multiplication problems with 2 digit numbers.  I used place value to solve this problem. I found this tricky because multiplying big numbers is pretty hard.  My next step is to solve division problems with remainders. 

Classifying Celebrations

            We have been learning about celebrations.  We had to talk about these celebrations and decided                   what type of celebration they were.  I found this tricky because some of the celebrations were hard                to decide like Graduation.            

A Moment In Time Writing

I have been learning to use strategies to add detail to my writing.  

I wrote about a moment in time during my holiday. I used my 5 senses to add detail to my writing.  

I got a lot better at brainstorming ideas. 

My next step is to  create an image in the readers mind!

     I have been learning to use my knowledge of prefixes, and suffixes to read and understand  the           meaning of words. A prefix is a group of letters that come at the beginning  of the word that can         change the meaning of the word .  A suffix is a letter or group of  letters at the end of the word to      form another word or new meaning.  My next learning step is to identify the suffix

 This is my Pepeha Art. A Pepeha is a way of introducing yourself in Maori. I have included my maunga [mountain], my awa [river], my culture and a place which is special to me. my favorite part of this was doing the top [India and New Zealand]   I loved doing this art work it was a bit tricky but the main part is I did it.

My Antonym Diamante poem

I have been learning to write a antonym diamante poem . An antonym is a opposite of something like love and hate.  A diamante poem is a poem based on two nouns and their shape is a diamond.  I found this tricky because it was hard to think of nouns, verbs and adjectives. My next step is to choose interesting words, not boring words.

Summarising Information - Camouflage Prestentation

I have been learning to find and summarise inforation in non-fiction texts.  I was surprised that the things I searched up came up with different results.  I  found this piece of work tricky because I had to keep reviewing my  piece of work.  My next step is to make sure I summarise the information  using my own words.

Softball Skills

                                               Yesterday RM 12 had softball skills.  
       
I had a lot of fun, when it was my turn to bat I was a bit nervous at first but I hit the ball far then I was like I can do it boooooooooooooooooooooooom  yay I did it

I have been learning to collect data using a tally chart and show the results on a bar graph. I found this interesting because people had different opinions that other people didn't agree on.

I was surprised with the results because a lot of people chose moana   I'll need to watch it soon mhahahahaha [evil laugh]

I have been learning to use metaphors to make it more interesting by making pictures in the readers 

head.

I found this easy because I am experienced in similes, since last year.

My next step is to  leave an image in the readers head by using metaphors.

My Welcome Post 2017

Welcome to my my Year 4 learning blog.  This year I am in room 12 and my teacher is Mrs Melville.  I enjoy reading, playing with my friends and swimming.  This year I am looking forward to learning metaphors.  I hope you will enjoy my blog and leave lots of feedback.
